Easy Chinese Broccoli in Oyster Sauce and Garlic

One of my favorite vegetable side dish is the Chinese broccoli in oyster sauce. This is actually one that my family has to have when we’re dining out at an authentic Asian restaurant. The savory sweetness of the oyster sauce blended with the slight bitterness of the broccoli creates a nice balance.

The bitterness might scare some away but it should help knowing that this is a “green and leafy” vegetable which is known to bring about many nutrients. Some of the nutrients include Vitamin C, K and A, as well as folic acid and high dietary fiber.

I like to eat this as a side dish with rice for meals that lacks vegetables because HEALTH IS WEALTH. Try it for yourself and you never know, it may be your next fave too!

Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp of vegetable oil

  • 1 lb of Chinese broccoli

  • 1 1/4 tbsp of oyster sauce

  • 1/2 tbsp of soy sauce

  • 1/4 tsp of sugar

  • 1/2 tsp of fried garlic

Directions

  • Prepare Chinese broccoli by trimming the ends of the stem and discarding it. Then soak broccoli in large bowl of cold water and rinse.
  • Preheat a large skillet over medium-low heat, add in vegetable oil. Allow that to heat then add in 1 tsp of fried garlic (you can use freshly chopped garlic as well but I use premade to save time plus it tastes the same).
  • Add in the Chinese broccoli, stirring it around and allowing it to cook a bit.
  • Then add in the oyster sauce and soy sauce, stir gently to evenly spread the seasonings.
  • Leafy vegetables do not take long to cook; after 2-3 mins more, it should be ready to eat!
