Easy Loaded Carne Asada Famous Fries

Why settle for regular French fries when you can have these loaded carne asada famous fries? I mean, who doesn’t like steak or French fries? Best of all, it’s so simple to make!

I love homemade French fries but when I’m pressed for time (and energy), I like to use the Checkers Seasoned Fries. In my opinion, these are well seasoned with the right crispy texture but feel free to use whichever you prefer.

Prepping and Cooking the Steak

First things first- season the steak with olive oil, lime juice, sugar, salt, onion powder, minced garlic, paprika, oregano, pepper and cumin.

If time permits, allow the steak to sit and marinate in the fridge- I gave it about an hour.

I prefer to cook my steaks on a griddle because it’s less likely to overcook IMO but using a nonstick pan works as well. Preheat the griddle to 300 degrees, spray with nonstick oil then add the steak.

I cook the steak for about 3 mins on each side, flipping and repeating until I reach my desired level. Which ironically is NOW medium-well but I used to only eat steak that had -0- pink in it! However as I got older, I realized a little bit of pink doesn’t hurt anybody and it’s actually a lot more tender!

Remove the steak from the griddle and allow it to rest for a few minutes before cutting it into bite-sized pieces.

Fresh Tomato Salsa

I like to use a fresh tomato salsa aka pico de gallo which adds a nice, refreshing taste to this dish. It’s basically diced tomatoes, diced red onions, chopped parsley, lime, garlic powder, salt and black pepper. If you’re pressed for time then diced tomatoes work just fine with the exception of a little less flavor.

Cheese Preference

For my cheese, I like to use the Tostitos Salsa Con Queso but you can use shredded cheese as well. I like the wet feel of the salsa con queso and it adds the perfect flavor!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb of steak of choice

  • A bag of frozen fries

  • Pico de gallo

  • Avocados, mashed

  • Cilantro, chopped

  • Lime, sliced

  • Salsa Con Queso (cheese dip)

  • Sour cream

  • Jalapeños (optional)

  • Seasonings for steak:
  • 1 tbsp of olive oil

  • 1/2 tbsp of lime juice

  • 1 1/4 tsp of sugar

  • 3/4 tsp of kosher salt

  • 1/2 tsp of onion powder

  • 1/2 tsp of minced garlic

  • 1/4 tsp of paprika

  • 1/4 tsp of oregano leaves

  • 1/8 tsp of ground black pepper

  • 1/8 tsp of ground cumin

Directions

  • Start with seasoning the steak using olive oil, lime juice, sugar, salt, onion powder, minced garlic, paprika, oregano, pepper and cumin. Rub the seasonings in well.
  • Preheat the griddle to 300 degrees and after allowing it to heat for 2 mins or so, spray it with a nonstick oil. Add steak to grill and allow it to cook for approx. 3 mins on each side. I do this several times until it’s cooked to my preference.
  • Preheat a large pot filled 1/3 of the way with vegetable oil for about 10 mins or until the oil sizzles upon splash of water. Then add in the frozen French fries and cook while the steak is also cooking. Remove fries onto a basket lined with paper towels once finished.
  • Remove steak from griddle onto cutting board and let it sit for a few minutes.
  • While the steak is resting, prepare the vegetables. Mash the avocados, slice the jalapeños and limes, chop the cilantro. Either make the pico de gallo or dice fresh tomatoes.
  • Then chop the steak into bite-size pieces.
  • Finally, it’s time to serve- using a large bowl, add the fries then steak and drizzle with cheese. Then add the avocados, pico de gallo, sour cream and sprinkle with chopped cilantro. For the final touch, add slices of jalapeño peppers and limes to the side. Enjoy!
